Community Spotlight

neighbors for education.

community first.

As a valuable partner of Citizens Project, we believe that supporting each other in the work of equity, inclusion and justice is beneficial to the overall community. We also believe that as part of our mission to inform, inspire and engage, it is important that we highlight and share the work of organizations who are making a tangible difference in these complementary spaces.

We are happy to spotlight Neighbors For Education and hope that you enjoy discovering those in our community who are working to make Colorado Springs a better place.

Question: “How would you summarize your mission, the work you do, and the community that you serve?”

"We are a nonpartisan group of people speaking up for the students in our community. We believe in Public Education. This means quality education for everyone and removing barriers to education. We value the data, facts and informed opinions of those who are educated and trained in the field they are addressing. We value practices and procedures that will enable our students to succeed for the long haul. This means supporting decisions and plans that prepare for a successful future for D11 and advocating for proven strategies that focus on the future success of students."

Question: “As an organization engaged in important and specific work in the community, what do you feel are issues/concerns voters in Colorado Springs would benefit from being more informed about? “

"The future of public education is at risk due to factors like: lack of funding, those looking to monetize and profit from it, School Board members who are against equity and do not support LGBTQIA+ students, poorly supported teachers and more. Voters need to be made aware of the issues our schools face and the intentions of those looking to make decisions that impact our students and our community. "
